Case study: Plains to Peaks, the first inter-collection collaboration
Our Team: Meet Veridian Software Engineer, Wayne

Hello friend of Veridian,

This month we review a case study on our first inter-state digital collection, and meet Wayne.
Case study: Plains to Peaks, the first inter-collection collaboration
In 2014, we worked with the Colorado State Library to release the new Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) on Veridian. Since the launch, the CHNC team have more than doubled the historic newspaper content that is freely available through the site.

The states of Colorado and Wyoming have a long history of working together on digital collection initiatives, and they approached Veridian in 2020 to create a partnership, a joint collection combining the content of the CHNC, Wyoming State Library and University of Wyoming collections.

This led to the creation of the Plains to Peaks digital collection, creating one place where users from both states can search and browse the content of both the Colorado and Wyoming collections.

Meet Wayne
Wayne joined Veridian in 2020 and is an experienced software developer. As a history lover, his progression into digital library software is a welcome one.

Wayne has a Masters Degree of Computer Science and Engineering from the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. He has led large software projects, managing teams to deliver an exceptional user experience for customers. We are very lucky to have him.

What led you to a career in software development?
To be honest, I didn’t know much about software development or computer engineering before I dived into the subjects at college. I felt it could be a channel to the world other than our physical world, beyond time and space restrictions - a way of communicating with someone human or non-human. Perhaps this image came from a movie or TV series that I can’t recall now. I’m very grateful for what my career in software development has given me so far.

Until next month, best wishes from the Veridian team
Stefan, Michael, Jeffrey, Andrew, Richard, Pei, Shane, Ryan and Wayne.
